Abstract
The "Code Stroke" protocol was developed to accelerate the treatment of stroke patients who may benefit from acute reperfusion therapy (intravenous thrombolysis and/or endovascular thrombectomy). The protocol describes the activities of emergency medical care that allow the early involvement of the stroke unit (department) team and the rapid hospitalization of the patient (through radiological imaging) to the stroke unit where treatment can be carried out and the initiation of appropriate treatment measures. According to the protocol, availability of a 24/7 hotline or telemedicine system, as well as neurologist and neuroimaging facilities, is of critical importance in hospitals with a stroke unit (center).

The “Code Stroke” protocol was developed to expedite the treatment of stroke patients who may benefit from acute reperfusion therapy (intravenous thrombolysis and/or endovascular thrombectomy). The protocol describes emergency medical care activities that allow for early involvement of the stroke unit (department) team and rapid hospitalization of the patient to a stroke unit where treatment can be provided (with radiological imaging) and initiation of appropriate treatment measures. According to the protocol, it is of great importance that hospitals with a stroke unit (center) have a 24/7 hotline or telemedicine system, as well as access to a neurologist and neuroimaging capabilities.
